About Steven Rogers
Steven Rogers has been an Oregonian all 24 years of his life. Growing up in Salem, family was a big part, if not everything to him. While influenced and supported by close family and friends, He’s always been willing to take chances and explore the unknown. Steven’s work ethic and positive attitude keep him pursuing his dream of becoming a Professional Fire fighter for TVF&R. Steven has acquired two associate degrees and is currently working on his third. One’s in Arts from Lane Community College, while another in Fire science through Chemeketa Community College, and currently practicing to become a Paramedic at OHSU/OIT. Rogers enjoys the outdoors and staying active, especially at the coast, on the mountain or at the lake. Steven has always been willing to help others and give back to the community around him. Rogers coached Varsity football at Blanchet Catholic High School in Salem for two years, as well as 6th grade Boys basketball at his old middle school, Judson. Rogers worked at Costco for 4 years prior to working as an intern Firefighter/EMT-B in the city of Woodburn for close to three years.
Steven states one of his biggest accomplishments so far is being able to display his art here in the rooms at Cape Kiwanda. Rogers started painting in late 2012. His influence and inspiration reflect off of the Indigenous Australians of North Australia and their artwork, while adding personal meaning to the mix. Didgeridoo lessons were Steven’s first exposure to the Aboriginal style of dot painting. A didgeridoo is a very interesting wind instrument used by the Indigenous people of Australia. It’s originally made from a eucalyptus tree that has been hollowed out by termites. As his passion for the art grew strong enough, he attempted his own as a birthday gift for his mom. He figured even if he messed up, moms still love that stuff. It actually turned out great, and ever since then Rogers has been intrigued to keep producing new art and continues to till this day. Steven was just as surprised as others when he found his paintings to draw attention. He also would’ve never guessed that he’d be using chopsticks for something other than food, as that is the instrument he uses for the dots produced in his paintings. Steven’s medium consists of acrylic paint on canvas, with paintings ranging up to 6 feet wide. Rogers has sold over 20 original paintings on eBay so far, which were very beneficial as gas and school tuition don’t seem to get any cheaper. Rogers describes his paintings as meticulous, stress relieving and instinctive. Bringing out positive vibrations in every piece he creates, Rogers strives towards neatness, consistency, and structure in order for things to run smoothly, and that’s what he tries to achieve throughout his work. Steven greatly appreciates any smiles he can generate from on lookers, and welcomes any questions you may have, Thank you!
